Mandatory recruitment orientation is today. Does anyone still in close contact with the row know of what the final number of PNMs registered is?

Oh wow! I do hope with that many women there will be enough sensible ones that results in all chapters meeting quota. Thanks yayaya!

Final number is 1043 I believe. With last year's retention rate, that would make quota around 73 I think.
edited because my verb repetition bothered me

Retention probably won't be quite as good this year because of the new colony (easier decision to drop out), but the pledge classes will still probably be really big. My "pulling it out of my arse" number is 65.

I think the numbers for quota will be lower because there are 10 sororities participating in formal recruitment this year instead of nine from the past few years. Can any one shed light on how far girl going through formal recruitment can go in the process and still be eligible for the AGD colonization? Can they go all the way through to Bid Day and then drop and join AGD? My goodness what a mess that will make of the numbers!

Once they sign a bid card and receive a bid from any of those groups, they are no longer eligible for any other group until the next formal recruitment. So, no, they cannot drop at Bid Day.

I am happy that AGD is recolonizing. It will give girls an additional option and should strengthen greek life overall. I think the other sororities will be supportive. I think this addition is long overdue!

So, the PNMs go through recruitment knowing that AGD will be recolonizing this fall? What are the recolonizing dates?
(BTW, I thought that BeachMom simply made an observation: there are fewer PNMs at USC than there are at Alabama. Different region / different state / different type of university. She likely found USC posts while she was looking for posts about South Carolina, where her daughter is a freshman (and a newly-pledged Alpha Chi). And, yes, the PNM #s between the two USCs are quite different.....I'd cut BeachMom some slack and congratulate her daughter. (Does Alpha Chi do AI? BeachMom could be a great candidate.))

How do recolonizations work at big schools in todays world? Does AGD have a core group of "founding members" or an interest group of upperclass leaders at USC that they recruit before this process or is it all done at one time and all by the alumni/colonization team?

Usually it is completely "ground up" and the colonization team chooses everyone over the course of a few action-packed days. Almost always a group of collegians from a nearby chapter is brought in to help with the recruitment aspect.

AGD is VERY busy in SoCal. Re-colonizing at USC, UCLA and UCSD -- all in the same month, October.
I hope their Recruitment Teams are getting sleep NOW.

I am so impressed with all of the recolonizations that AGD is doing in Southern California this fall! You ladies are going to need a vacation when they are all done! Long ago and far away I was part of a colonization and it was a rich and rewarding experience for me then and the lessons and experiences of that time have helped me in countless ways over the years. I didn't have the experience of going through a big formal recruitment but gained so much personally from my experience. It was wonderful to be in the first wave of members taking a leadership position from day one. I am just curious how the process has changed from the dark ages when I went through...
