So nervous!
Hi all, my DD is rushing at UA. She is very slightly below the 3.0 (a high 2.9, if they rounded up she'd be there). She knew it was going to be a tough week, but she's weathered the storm. The problem she has (and I do too, being her mom) is she's going to 2 pref parties. House A, she loves and wants to join, House B she can't see herself in at all. I told her to keep her options open, look for good in all. It's not that she doesn't think house "B" is a bad house, she just doesn't feel the fit - at all. She is thinking about suiciding. I've told her it's called that for a reason. Any advice?

Tough call. Personally, I would never SIP at Bama because they are all great chapters. That's not just fluff.
With that said, if she feels she can absolutely not accept a bid to #2, then she shouldn't list them. It isn't fair to that chapter.
When I look at the stats from last year, most women got their first choice but each year is different and you just never know. If she SIPs she won't be eligable to be placed as a quota addition to either chapter so it's a huge gamble. It could work out or DD could miss her opportunity to join a great community.

YES!

READ THIS THREAD AND CALL HER ASAP.
After you read that, know this: If her top choice puts her on their top list, she will get them. She will get them if they dip into their 2nd list. But if she is too far down she gets nothing. No opening of the bid cards, no screaming girls in pink running the roads....nothing. There are no do overs.

You have seen all the stuff about the trials and tribulations of sophmore and transfer students. Alabama is one of those campuses that it can be really disappointing to be not greek when all the rest of your friends are greek - missing out on swaps and game days etc.
I would encourage anyone to try it rather than SIPing. Try it, you might be two steps away from your new best friend. Yes chapters will COB - but you might only get one or two choices and that might not be where your friends are either.
It might be your only chance.
