I got to roll the oaks once. I agree that sculptures of the trees could be really cool. I'm imagining letting alumni and students buy single leaves, so that the tree statues have living "family" even though they aren't alive. There are lots of schools (Washington & Lee, Harvard, Southern Cal) where a statue is the focal point of campus. Maybe they could always have a sapling growing in a pot, or photos of acorn offspring growing in alumni gardens all over the world.
You've perfectly described what I was thinking!

I couldn't go. I couldn't bring myself to go to the last rolling of the trees.
Sorry Auburn students and alumni. It's really hard saying goodbye to a tradition. (Been there!)

new design

Here is the website link to the oaks. About halfway down the page is the artists rendering of the new design. The final design is actually a blend of the two with the circular plaza and a walkway off toward Samford Hall.

For this fall, they will have some kind of wires to hang paper from.

News reports had 83000+ at the A- Day spring game yesterday.

Fixed the link: http://www.auburn.edu/communications...aks/index.html. (There was an extra "http://" in there.)

Thanks for sharing this.

I went to A-Day and to the final tree rolling. It was bittersweet. We showed our strength, unity and resilience. War Eagle!

The updated image for Samford park after the trees are replaced. http://www.flickr.com/photos/auburnu...ty/8667015088/

Its hard to see exactly how this will go - especially without removing a third large tree closer to Samford Hall....
