Superman first appeared in issue #1 of Action Comics, published April 18, 1938 -- 75 years ago today, marking the birth of the super-hero genre. (The cover date was June.)
Action Comics #1 included 11 other strips, but it was Superman that caused the initial printing of 200,000 to quickly sell out. Estimates are that there are only 50-100 original Action Comics #1 left; one --perhaps the same one stolen from Nicolas Cage and later recovered -- recently sold for over $2M.
So, in this thread, we can share our memories and thoughts about that strange visitor from another planet who fights for truth, justice and the American Way.
I'll start just by saying thank you to Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (who were paid $130 for that first Superman comic)!
