I am assuming it means they were holding beverages in their hands. All the pictures were from parties.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I was not being facetious! In my mind I was picturing composite pictures and I was thinking, "Why were the hands even visible?"

Don't know why, but party pictures never occurred to me!
