I didn't think it was that witty or original.

I've seen funnier "confident" intro letters.

Ditto. Nothing about this really stood out to me. He threw in a joke about shining shoes and getting coffee, but other than that, I'm not seeing a lot of "out-of-the-box thinking." It's not like he needs to rely on his creativity, either.. he seems to have a lot going for him. With this letter, he might have put himself slightly ahead of other graduates with his same credentials... but that's about it.
