So happy for you!

Of course, if you're the one in 10,000 for whom LASIK doesn't work out, it's pretty catastrophic. But in the years since I've had it, I think they have learned the better candidates.

I started wearing glasses when I was five, and the hard contacts when I was 12. The thought then was that the hard contacts would act much like braces on the teeth, and keep my eyes from getting any worse. FWIW, they didn't. I eventually went to the soft contacts, then of course, LASIK. I still have monovision (no bifocals for me - ever!), and no regrets!

I reread this thread and want to say that my mother was legally blind at the time of her death. She had both glaucoma AND macular degeneration. She was on the protocol for the medication Preservision, so her AREDs didn't progress at quickly as many others at the time. However, when it did, she had to get shots in her eyes to stop the bleeding into the retina. I know it hurt her badly, and it hurt me to watch it. I honestly hope that I die prior to having to go through that!

I can't believe...

I can't believe that I have actually scheduled my LASIK procedure. I started wearing glasses in third grade and have terrible vision. Switched to contacts in junior high and wore them almost constantly until a few months ago when my eyes decided the just would not wear them anymore.

I am a big ol' fraidy cat, and all of the eye problems that I have had over the last couple of years probably contributes to that. However, I am getting excited about the prospect of actually being able to see without having to wear glasses, go swimming and not have to deal with contacts or glasses, etc. I can't imagine what it will be like.

I have a pre-op appointment next Monday and assuming all goes well, will probably have the surgery next Thursday. Can't wait!

I had mine done in October. I may need to go for a slight adjustment in a few months, but I'm still very happy with the results. I went from -5.00 and -4.75 to -0.50 and -0.25....so its very slight, but just enough that I want glasses for driving at night. Probably for when I play sports too. But at each of my appointments, my eyes have changed slightly. So they told me to wait until I hit the year mark and make a decision from there.
