American Rush Theme

Hey everyone! I am rush chair for this coming spring rush, and we plan to do an American theme so I was wondering if anyone had some ideas about gift or decorations for that!

Thanks,
Alexa

Is this formal or informal rush? Frills or no frills?

Fireworks are probably out of the question, however if your group hosts an off-campus Bid Night party perhaps your venue has fireworks capability/availability (private clubs in my area have fireworks during wedding receptions).

Your Bid Cards could be made to resemble old historic U.S. documents such as the Constitution/Bill Of Rights.

Bid Day signs might be cut-out white stars (like on our U.S. Flag) with NM names.

Certain national colas come in short, red or blue aluminum cans to serve at parties.

It is now Halloween, check local stores for Miss America/Statue of Liberty/Uncle Sam costumes for skits.

Many of our Founding Fathers are on US dollar bills; decorate with real-looking fake bills. Or purchase candy bars (Walgreens or specialty store World Market) that look like 'million dollar' bills.

If you are not into red/white/blue decorations, the American Theme could be narrowed in definition: BBQ; beaches; music; cars; television, etc.

Don't forget during recruitment conversations to mention great Americans who are members of your group. If one of those great women helped found XYZ Corp, give New Members gifts/totes/items from that store/business.

And in case you missed the GreekChat photo under Alpha Gamma Delta Recruitment 2012-2013, Ohio U women wore WE WANT YOU! Bid Day shirts with the famous American Uncle Sam design.

The Sigma Gamma chapter did an American Olympic theme for their bid day. They made signs and used balloons. The cake was the Olympic rings. Their big wooden letters were painted like the flag. Then one of the advisors stayed up to help make an Olympic torch out of posterboard and tissue paper. The shirts had Stay Calm and Go For Gold on the back in red and gold. The initiated sisters and advisors wore white shirts (tanks) and the new members wore the red ones. You could contact their new member educator or their recruitment chair for ideas. I know their preference day was the same one they do every year. But, Appalachian State does a no frills recruitment, so the other two days were display and philanthropy. I wasn't able to go, so I do not know if those two days were incorporated into an American theme or not.

I just saw Omega Upsilon's Bid Day pics (Ohio U) on Facebook, and it looks like they used an "All That" theme. I thought that was adorable!
