We were looking over the orientation schedule and they include some events that are happening early in the school year. She took note of the Delta Gamma Anchor Splash.

And, she's gone, and kind of miserable at the moment. I'm sure it will get better. Very tough day for all of us.

I was ok last night, she was miserable. She will be ok, I'm sure. She's slower to warm up and make bonds than some young women are. She was tired, has a summer cold, overwhelmed by saying goodbyes and unpacking and I don't think she was feeling very social and sent me a text saying she didn't know how to make friends. It was just a tough, overwhelming first day. I'm sure today will be better.

She is doing better today. Having fun at the museum of natural history with her "constellation", which is a group that will do things together through their four years of school. It's essentially all the women who live on the second floor their first year. So, all the women who were 2nd floor residents during their freshman year, whether they are now seniors, juniors, sophomores, etc.

^^^Aw that's cool! I lived on the 2nd floor of my dorm my Freshman year and we all got really close. We called it "Midtown." 3rd Floor was the "Penthouse" and they stayed very close as well. I'm glad hypo is enjoying herself!

We did the big drop off yesterday. No tears...until today. I looked at the kitchen desk where she always puts her purse and car keys, and the purse was gone. That did it. A bit later my husband broke down...he said he would have been OK if I hadn't started crying.

Last night she called and told us she'd had so much fun doing icebreaker activities. I think she's fine. I'm sure hypo will be, too.

Yes, I'm sure she will be too. I was doing ok until she had sent those texts about how miserable she was. I did know it was a combination of exhaustion, feeling sick, and saying goodbye to her family. Her dad was in worse shape than I was. He called his dad from the car on the way home and had to hang up because he was sobbing.

I also know I'll be ok, but I am not one to hold things in. I let it out and move on.

On the subway yesterday, I saw a group of Barnard first-years wearing their Constellation shirts! I wonder if hypo was in that group... Barnard does such a good job with their orientation programs.

I think my father had a much harder time with my leaving for college than my mom did; I wonder if that's true for fathers in general.

Will you be coming for Parents/Family weekend?

I wish someone else would start a college search thread for this year. I'd love to sit back and live vicariously through another parent's stress!
