I know someone that did this at Indiana, even! She went through recruitment as a freshman, suicided and didn't get a bid. Went through recruitment as a sophomore, suicided again and didn't get a bid. She dropped out of IU after her sophomore year and transferred to UK, where she magically became a member of an NPC group in fall of her junior year

@IndianaSigKap & IUHossiergirl88 How long ago were those double recruitments?

Since we have deferred recruitment I'll speak in terms of school years...she left at the end of the '08-'09 school year and joined the UK chapter fall of '09

So she went somewhere that sophomores are routine in NM classes? That would make sense.

That's not uncommon. But at Ole Miss they were withdrawing after recruitment and registering elsewhere in time for the second recruitment as freshmen in the fall. Entirely different thing. So they were rushing at Ole Miss one week and somewhere else two weeks later.

And that always just blew my mind.

My girl went through SEC recruitment at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. If she had not gotten one of her choices, she would have transferred immediately and then participated in another recruitment less than two weeks later at her new school.

Here they wouldn't be allowed to affiliate by the target chapter. Better just stay where "ya" are.

I’ve heard of this happening before – but I’ve always thought it was more folklore than something that commonly occurs.
It seems logistically unlikely – in the time frame of two weeks or less – that one could apply to another school, submit all paperwork necessary for admission (official transcripts, etc), receive acceptance, make housing arrangements (dorm assignments, roommates, etc), attend advising and register for classes, register for recruitment, have alums submit recs necessary for recruitment to the chapters at the new school, move out of current location, and move into new location.
Not to mention the futility of the effort, if even logistically possible. With smartphones and social media, a recruitment shell game would most certainly be noticed (the alums asked to submit recs again would notice as well). And anyway, how would a PNM's prospects for joining the chapter of her choice improve in two weeks for recruitment somewhere else?
I wouldn’t be surprised if some disappointed girls eventually transferred to other schools and tried again, or even withdrew following recruitment. However, I would think this happens to some degree on any campus strongly influenced by the Greek system, regardless of when recruitment is held.

It obviously happened enough at Ole Miss that they moved recruitment to stop it.

How long ago did this 'happen enough' to affect enrollment in any significant way at Ole Miss? Withdrawals and transfers can happen regardless of when recruitment is held.
Participating in another recruitment -- within two weeks -- is so logistically implausible in today's college enrollment process and recruitment climate that it may no longer be a valid reason to delay recruitment. Especially considering the disruptive downside for actives and PNMs once classes are underway.

It was remarked upon with irritation when I was assisting with recruitment at Ole Miss from 1992 through 1996. Now it's only mentioned as the reason recruitment was moved.
