Some of the schools have huge files of pictures you should be able to find online. I mean HUNDREDS of pictures. I'd go in search of what was worn last year and you won't be too far off, especially because they seem to all be really classic styled.

I'm not completely opposed to strapless dresses but if budget is a big thing, you probably can't buy one that's well enough made to get away with at a price you can deal with. Plus, proper undergarments (mandatory) for a strapless dress can cost as much as the dress itself. If you do find one you really like, wear it for several hours (and be active, not watching TV) and see if you ever tug at it. If you do once, you'll be doing it every 10 seconds after you and the dress are both sweaty.

THIS! This goes for any new shoes that you buy as well (including flats). Make sure that your feet are comfortable and that the shoes will not rub a monster blister throughout the day.

A lot of schools are also on pinterest and have made boards for recruitment. Try checking there as well.
