Roundup is a recruiting event along with being a big greek party event. It just is, and has been since before I was in high school.
Summer rush goes on during the summer before you start in the fall, there will be events during all of the orientation weekends. There are some big name events, like Fiji Island, Foam, etc, but there will be "late nights' every night during the orientations.
There is no formal rush week or anything in the fall for fraternities at Texas. Most bids are given out at "Austin State" weekend which is before school starts.
Most of the houses have websites where you can get an email for a rush captain, there will be rush captains in most of the big Texas cities. Email a rush captain and they will put you on the rush list. That's how you'll get invited to events.
It is harder to get on some rush lists than others. Start contacting people late fall, any earlier and it is a waste of time, but if they get you on the lists prior to Xmas formals, you may be invited.
My sons started going to events starting with Xmas formals, then all through the spring, including Roundup, then summer rush events, then got bids at Austin State. This was in 2007 and 2010, so it hasn't changed.
Good luck!
