Black Bear loose in South. FL!!!
This thread will probably not be really popular, but i thought i should share this with you. I live in Boynton Beach, Florida....5 minutes from the beach. (ya i know i know....poor tara) Well i was watching the news the other day and saw a black bear running through a back yard. Ok, weird...but it turns out that the bear is loose in my city. It got loose from a reserve wayyyyy out west and travelled to sunny Boynton Beach. It's going into people's garages and eating Dunkin Donuts that the cops leave out for him (in efforts to try and catch him...not working). So anyways, just thought i'd rant about this...he's soooo cute and if he comes through my back yard i'm sure i'll take pictures... Just thought that this was funny..i didn't even know bears existed in FL.

If a black bear came on to my property I would take a shot to but I don’t think it would be with a camera.

Oh..no no no...he's adorable! I think he's like the bear eqivilent (spelling?) to a teenager. Hes just walking around checking things out, not causing any harm. He gets scared and runs away if you tap on your window....

This isn't what is happening in Tara's town, but I just wanted to say...."A fed bear is a dead bear".
I wanted to chime in on the bears thread and give my public service message of "'Don't Feed the Bears".
When people see bears and think "Oh, how cute, I'll feed him", this is a bad idea. The bears lose their fear of humans and then start coming around residential areas etc. Once this happens, the bear has to be destroyed, because the bear is not afraid of humans anymore and could lumber into residential areas looking for food or handouts and in the process, could potentially maul some little kid or something.
I think it is horrible that a wild animal (to be admired from afar, of course) would have to be senselessly destroyed (when the whole situation could have been prevented entirely) so please don't feed the bears!
THANKS!

Well said CutiePie2000! The local Police and Wildlife people are making this a very important point. Honestly though, who would walk up to a wild bear and feed it some cracker sor something...some people, i swear they ate paint chips

Funny you mentioned this because we had a bear in a residential area last week. It was only a cub though in a tree, but the question everyone is asking is where is its mother.

A guy in a town near mine had a bear as a pet, and it got loose a couple weeks ago. It climbed way up in a tree, and they couldn't get it to come down, so the guy made the decision to have it destroyed, rather than to knock it out of the tree hurting it badly, or having it get away and who knows what!

We have several bears around where I live in Kentucky. It's in fact illegal to harm one. While it may seem like a good idea to have a photo op, stay away it's a wild animal. Some times the flash and the camera will freak them out. They need to call wildlife management and not bait the critter with doughnuts.

Ya the bear is too smart for the cops and pulls the doughnuts from the traps from an angle so that he cant be caught. Smart little bear!

LOL at cops giving out doughnuts!
Tara, I used to go to FAU and I lived in West Palm. I didn't know there were beas either. Just them gators. They used to keep me up with their mating, cuz there were a bunch of them right by my house! My ex told me that there are jaguars and panthers, especially down in the keys.

They finally caught the bear. They shot it with a "wilderness dart" and moved it to some weird county up north.
