Also, rice cooker, bread maker, waffle iron...
I don't cook. If I received any of these as gifts, I wouldn't be thrilled.. And I'd probably end up giving it to someone else.

ETA - but, when I went to school, my aunt bought me a "cookbook" with VERY easy recipes - no-bake cakes, microwave meals, 3-ingredients-or-less snacks.. It was awesome.

My friend gave me nice bath towels when I went away to school. Sooo nice. A great gift.

We used to, but now we have a personal chef who brings our food for the week precooked and portioned on Mondays. We cook once a month at the very most...if that often. LOL.

Another good idea.. Flashlight and batteries! The first time the electricity goes out is ALWAYS fun when you don't have these.

In college.. I almost did. It was either that or my meal plan.

But ok, the one "extra" I have in the kitchen is a George Forman grill.. You can make a ton of stuff with it, and it's simple to use - I grill chicken, burgers, hot dogs, perogies, veggies, eggs, paninis, etc.

I'm pretty sure that with one of these grills, I wouldn't really miss an oven and stove if I didn't have them.

What is a Quillow?
I posted pics of the quillow that my dad's wife made for me on your FB.

As for the gift, one of the things that Hypo wants but that we are waiting on (because all the "needs" are using up our budget) is a comfy chair for her dorm room, something like this one:

This one is a little more than your budget, but if you have coupons or can find something like that somewhere cheaper...

I rarely put anything in my crock pot (may it RIP, I just recently smashed the crock) that has more than 2-3 ingredients, if we aren't counting spices.
