The first thing she did was talk to her recruitment counselor to tell her she would not be accepting the bid to Brooke and wanted to know how to get involved in the Kendall colonization. The recruitment counselor told her that since she signed the night before saying she would accept a bid to Mackenzie OR Brooke, she was bound to that bid for a year unless she transferred schools. This meant she couldn’t join Kendall at this school either. She told Abby that she might as well give Brooke a try then left to comfort another upset PNM.
Abby was furious. Why had her recruitment counselor told her it was in her best interest to list Brooke? If she hadn’t, then maybe she could become a Kendall, which she had always found as more exciting than Brooke.
First she called her mother to let her know what was going on and how she felt. Her mother encouraged her to go to Bid Day, but first call her older sister, who had also received her second choice on Bid Day.
Her sister was sympathetic because she knew what it was like to see your number two house listed instead of your first choice. However, her sister had liked her second choice almost as much as her first choice so it didn’t take long for her to get excited about where she ended-up. She also encouraged Abby to go to Bid Day and give Brooke a shot.
She called her best friend, but she was going through recruitment at another school that week and couldn’t really talk.
Finally, she called her Mackenzie cousin and yelled at her for not writing a good enough letter of recommendation to the sorority. The cousin assured Abby that she had said amazing words about her and couldn’t believe that her sisters didn’t want her to join. She also encouraged Abby to go to Bid Day and see what Brooke was about.
So Abby joined the other Brooke new members, almost all were extremely excited about getting their number one choice, Brooke. And Abby knew there were other PNMs who were crying earlier because they didn’t get Brooke. Abby smiled in pictures and accepted the Brooke gifts from her Bid Day buddy. But still, something didn’t feel right. Even two weeks into new member education, Abby felt like something was missing…
