While I like the opinions on my personal situation, I was really looking for opinions about the broader subject at hand. As for my personal experience it really doesn't matter, because it happened way back in 2008 during my first semester in college. I was just using it to show why I don't believe that ethnicity should be a deciding factor in a fraternity membership.

Uh...good for you. This topic has been discussed on GC many times over the years. Partake in the existing threads or go away with your redundancy.

If you don't like the thread, nobody is forcing you to make comments or read it for that matter

Apply this logic to your need to discuss the topic.

Maybe I haven't read enough, but it was my understanding that an aspirant of a D9 group would not even be in the situation where they'd be discussing membership with members that early in their college career.

Can you suggest some material? (I'm being completely serious about this.)

Aspirants discuss membership to NPHC members whenever it will be discussed with them. The OP was not talking about an official membership process. Even still, there are first semester and second semester college students who are eligible for membership in NPHC GLOs as long as first year students are not prohibited based on college guidelines or the GLO's guidelines. There is a 2007 thread about that.
By the way, I meant to put " " at the end of "you have not read enough." Bazinga.

It really depends on the school you attend and the chapter's own rules at that school, the school I was attending at the time didn't have any rules about freshman, nor did the chapter.

Is there a problem with that being my first semester in college?

If anyone needs a reminder of how this is fake. LOL. Someone who was a first semester college student "way back in" 2008 (and claims that this thread was not really about him--and has posted in another GC thread) should not still be pondering collegiate NPHC fraternity membership.
