Jess - big hugs and give M a big hug from her "auntie" for being so brave and telling you what was happening.
2nd grade boys can get erections, but they aren't sexual because boys don't have androgens. They aren't going through puberty so they don't have the same urges like older boys do. My husband is a pediatric endocrinologist. He treats children with hormone disfunction like precocious puberty. If a boy is practically raping the girls at that age, his testosterone levels are too high. My husband had a patient recently that was in prococious puberty in the first grade. He had to take depo-lupron to suppress his T so he could control those urges, because unlike older boys, a 6 year old doesn't have the mental control to handle the sexual urges brought on by puberty. When the medicine didn't last the full time, he couldn't go to school. The girls weren't safe.
