Also re: connections, ask around in your parents' circles to see if anyone will look at your resume for potential internships/jobs (when the time comes). Also friends' parents, I've had several of those say "oh make sure to send me your resume when you get closer to graduating." I would have never even thought to have asked, but now that I have I realize how valuable those contacts could be.
