I would think squirrels would be bad pets, they bite. You have to cage them and they will run off when let out. They can carry several types of diseases including being a common host for the ticks that carry Lyme disease. I don't know that I would want one as a pet. That was one of the few animals that my high school science teacher was not allowed to have in our classroom.
When I initially thought turtle, I was thinking of the really cool turtle habitats with the water and sand, etc. As far as snakes go, they totally creep me out. A guy I knew in college had a huge boa and I would never go to his apartment, ever. They fed it mice and rats, it was disgusting.
