See, this must be a northern thing, lol. In the South, people load them up with butter, salt, and pepper. I personally hate grits, but gotta live with 'em.
Don't freak out now. But I actually LOVE GRITS! I tried em for the first time last summer in Atlanta and I had em every morning...with BUTTER, SALT, AND PEPPER.
