Would NPC rules allow the chapter to bid a woman one semester with the understanding that she will join the next semester's class, or is the chapter obligated to allow her to begin pledging immediately?

If the chapter COBed a chapter friend and explained the situation, it might be better than trying to do a NM period of one.

We used to do this all the time. It is my understanding that although NPC and its member groups aren't wild about it (since you are losing a semester of dues ) it is permissible. It was our jagoff Greek advisor that made us stop the practice. We found it preferable than one-member or two-member classes - I think the last 2-member class we had both terminated.

Honestly though, a lot of it depends upon the person. If we're talking an in-house sister legacy who's been hanging around for years or someone who already knows every single sister, she would probably love it and not feel she missed a thing. A garden variety PNM though, it might be asking a lot of.
