I loved sitting in the balcony. It was a great view for "Defying Gravity." We were literally in the last row and I loved every moment. But then again I was seeing my favorite show on Broadway on my birthday. I don't think I could NOT have fun!

I am trying to remind myself that this will be my 5th time seeing it and I really don't need to see it again but I'm still sad that I'm not going after a year of looking forward to it. I very nearly saw it in Atlanta when I was there in the fall but didn't go because I was seeing it this summer in Sacramento. My little bit of self-restraint was for not! *cries*

We sat in the balcony this time but the view was great except that another Scout leader who sat in front of me had this Afro that kept covering the lower stage. Thank the Lord that the seats were on a steep pitch!

I finally saw it in November in Nashville after years of just listening to the soundtrack. I was BLOWN AWAY. It got beaten out for the Tony that year by Avenue Q, which I saw in NYC about six years ago.

It's an interesting comparison - the music for both is amazing, the stories couldn't be more different, and Avenue Q is so minimalist compared to Wicked.

It was nice to finally have seen both. I will say that Wicked works well in a larger theatre in a way that Avenue Q wouldn't.

Of course, two each her own - my sister saw the Las Vegas production of Q and was underwhelmed. My mother and father saw an Atlanta community theater production of it and fell in love with it.

You never know...

We Avenue Q in a pretty big venue (bigger than the typical Broadway theatre at least) and it worked fine. I think a lot depends on the audience.

We saw Wicked a few years ago and have tickets to take the kids in a few months.

So, that's good to know. We saw 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at our local big auditorium a few years back, and it really didn't work for me - it might have been my father and husband, both of whom were there under duress, who made that experience less than ideal - but again, that's a pretty sparse set, and the costuming/makeup are not much more than street clothes.

Haven't posted in a very long time, but found out a couple of days ago that a high school classmate of our two daughters, Andy Kelso, is joining the national tour. Guess I'll have to see it again.

He was Sky in Mama Mia on Broadway.
