I love college sports as much as the next guy, but there has been a complete loss of perspective on way too many campuses.
2 of the things have to do with sports, and I agree that that's part of the problem our culture has in regards to college. I would have started with something like THON, not Big 10.

I have also seen this in a couple different places…

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-...ncer-son-says/

But they're saying that it's treatable.

And then there's this...

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/19/sp...s-to-fold.html

Quote:
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The local charity founded by Jerry Sandusky, the former

Penn State defensive coordinator who earlier this month was charged with 40 counts of sexually abusing young boys, is preparing to fold as it tries to reconstruct what it knew, and did, about any suspicions or allegations against Sandusky over the years.

David Woodle, the chief executive of the charity, known as Second Mile, said in an interview Friday that the foundation was seeking to transfer its programs to other nonprofit organizations. The Second Mile’s leaders are looking at a limited number of organizations that could, and would, carry forward the foundation’s work with disadvantaged youth. He would not say which organizations would be candidates.

Another one puts his foot in his mouth over Paterno: Franco Harris

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11322/1190817-53-0.stm

And Mayor Ravenstahl called him out for it! This overjoys me. Not only because Little Luke's hair transplants are finally starting to look more natural in the accompanying photos/videos, but because he stepped up and took on one of these "defenders." Good for him! He has a child so I'm sure he is just disgusted by the whole subject. Harris should know better. Now he's outsted from his work with the Pittsburgh Promise.

In other news:

http://www.wpxi.com/news/29804499/detail.html

Police are investigating child porn on PSU computers. Could be unrelated, but what if it's not...and they were using the kids for a porn ring? Scary!

This fella may not be a victim, but is admitting in this interview that Sandusky had inappropriate tendencies. I dont think this guy is ready to admit to himself that Sandusky is a dirty old man.

These are both insanely dumb - both because the comparison fails miserably on anything beyond a facile level (due to the fact that journalistic entities have a duty to not report false or misleading information, which is markedly different than, say, ethical obligations to 10 year olds or coworkers or whatever), and because even if the comparison did work (IT DOESN'T), the actions of a wholly dissimilar party don't excuse any wrongdoing at all.

Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb. Dumb. And possibly willfully ignorant, to make a borderline-abhorrent point.

Oh, I completely agree. As you've pointed out, even if each was based in fact and members of the media dropped the ball, that doesn't take the weight off of Paterno's shoulders. It might just mean they both f***ed up.

Penn State is now looking to move away from being known as a “football school”?*

As one of these articles states, why is it that having a good football team and being an exceptional educational institution have to be mutually exclusive?

Besides, I thought this "wasn't about football"...*

^^ Good grief.

I wish folks (mainly the media) would focus more on the man and not the school. PSU doesn't deserve to be tarnished like this.
