Alum Panhel
Hi!
Is anyone involved (or was involved) with their local Alumnae Panhellenic (APH) or know much about it?

I am!
The Atlanta (they made us put that part in) Southern Crescent Panhellenic Council was formed about 2 years ago.
http://www.geocities.com/rbecky267/PanhelAlum
It started because a former AF Lt. Colonel (Gamma Phi Beta) got tired of drivng to the Atlanta meeting.
4rh of July, we will be walking (hopefully, slowly ) in the Peachtree City Parade. We hope to begin awarding a local scholarship.
If you PM me, I'll give you the President (Chi O's) email. There's not enuff AGDs yet to be involved in the officer rotation.

Rochester Alumnae Panhellenic Assoc.
I have been trying to joint his group for awhile. I just really cant because they hold their meetings at different members houses and some are like 20 miles away. Not easy for those of us without cars .
Anywho, the RAPA meets every second Monday of the month in the evenings. They have every org represented just about except for...AGD. Thats why when I met one of their members she asked me about joining. Buts its also kind of wierd because when I talked to their membership person she asked me if Alpha Gam was one of the 26 NPC orgs. and I wanted to be like...uhhh yeah shouldnt you know this? But the women is awesome. I have been told that they get together every now and then for events, and just discuss issues surrounding the NPC and Greek Life in general.

My only involvement (so far) in Panhellenic of Hawaii has been modeling that bridesmaid's dress from hell at the Annual Spring Luncheon. I hope to become more involved with this great group of women in the near future because they're just so amazing! Throughout the year, these women hold events to generate money for scholarships. Because of their hard work, many women (current high school grads & sorority women across the nation alike) have benefitted from these scholarships.
MaiLy (hawaiiagd) is entering her 2nd year as Panhellenic of Hawaii President (woohoo!) and I'm sure she'll be happy to share with you some of her experiences as soon as she gets back from her well deserved vacation to Las Vegas.
Though it's under construction, the Panhellenic of Hawaii website can be viewed here: http://www.greekhawaii.com/hawaiiaph.htm

Just got back!
I'm very much involved with the Panhellenic of Hawaii Alumnae. I'm entering my second year as the president of this wonderful group and have been involved for almost 5 years now. I served a few years as the VP Scholarship / Recruitment.
What would you like to know? I'd be happy to pass on information that would be of help to you.
Loyally,
Mai Ly

How does one get involved. I am very interested in being involved but I was told that there is only one rep from the alum chapter who attends unless it is an open function so I guess I never thought I could be involved?
Please let me know how!

I knew I could count on all of you for information about this!! You're all so amazing!!
I'm not familiar with the APH at all so I guess I was just wondering how it all works?
I just emailed NPC ( I think that's right? through their website- www.npcwomen.org ) to see if there was even an Alum Panhel in the area. I don't think there is because the way I heard about APH's was that there was one here in Birmingham, but dissolved quite a few years ago. There didn't seem to be a lot of information on the NPC website, so thank you for posting your individual websites! I got more info that way!
Anyways, I guess along the same lines as the last post...Is there just one rep from each sorority and then officers in addition to each rep? Or are the meetings open to everyone? Are there dues, and how do they work (each sorority pays for a rep, or everyone who goes has to pay?)? If there isn't one in the area, do you think it's worth trying to start one?

I don't know the exact term, but the Area Province Director or whatever she, lives in upper NE Alabama, I can't remember town but she came here last month to install our Pan. officers. Carnation might have it.
She was supposed to contact me but never did. Her name is Denise McCullers and she's a DZ.
Good luck!

I was involved with mine a few years ago when I worked from home - unfortunately they hold their meetings on Wednesday mornings, so it's hard for those that work to attend. It was mostly made up of more "seasoned" women ( ), and they loved having a younger alumna involved. I tried to get others involved, but it didn't work because of the timing of their meetings. We did look into trying to get a 'Junior Circle' going for the alumnae Panhellenic... tried to contact the groups' area reps for a contact. No luck...
Any NPC group alumna could attend the meetings, and elections were held annually. They tried to switch up the different groups who were represented on the board, but they basically had to take anyone who was interested. There were about 150 women on their roster, and 50 who attended the monthly meetings. They gave annual scholarships to high school students in the area, and held one fundraiser luncheon each year. I made some good contacts in the group, and just wish their meetings were 'working-woman-friendly' so I could've been more involved!
Good luck - and keep us posted if anyone finds out other information!

Our group meets once a month on Saturdays from September through May. Our officers meet once over the summer to set the meeting places and calendar for the year.
We ask that each sorority designate one delegate to attend our meetings each month and to have an alternate in the event she is unable to attend. However, we invite any alumna member to attend. We love the added company, and it helps us find "fresh blood" to fill officer positions.
We've tried the rotation outlined for filling offices, but since most of our members have been officers (and the president) several times over, we pretty much leave up to the outgoing president to nominate interested members.
We do three fundraisers, and the funds are awarded to high school seniors planning to attend a college with atleast one NPC on its campus and to collegiate members either from or attending school in Hawaii. We also attend the annual college and career fair to promote greek life and encourage girls to apply for our scholarship.

Try contacting the Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association. They've got a website with some information about their group and links to two panhellenic councils in their area.

Wow, thanks for all the info everyone!!
I've been emailing Denise back and forth the last few days and she's been very helpful. (If anyone needs her email, you can PM me). Sounds like there was one in Birmingham, but not at the moment and she's going to try and start one up again this fall, so we'll see. She's looking for some help, so any of you in Birmingham that may be interested let me know. I've offered to help out a little to get it started as long as it doesn't get to time consuming. I'd rather put more time and energy into junior circle.
I guess I was curious how it all worked since I wasn't familiar with them at all. I really like AGD4me's idea about a "junior circle" type one; I had a feeling most APH's were more "seasoned". I think a junior circle type one would be a lot more beneficial to me at this point. Maybe I should try and form an "unofficial" younger group? Has anyone tried that? Or does anyone's alum chapter/clubs to events/activities with other sorority/fraternity alum groups?

Our Alpha Gam alum chapter pretty much just does stuff with other Alpha Gams. However, I do remember one philanthropic activity we did with the Beta Alumni a while back. That was fun. One of our alums is married to an Beta, so when they decided to work the Hawaii Public Television telethon and needed some extra bodies, we were called in to help. We talked about how we should do more together, but never more really came of it.
As president of the Hawaii Alumnae Panhellenic, I've been wanting to build up younger interest in our group. When I joined the group, there was only one other member in my age group - - a DG delegate. She went off to Germany, and that left me the only member under 50 for the last two years. Thankfully, the Pi Phis are regrouping here in Hawaii this year, and their delegate is a beautiful young blonde... younger than me! The Chi O's also found a new military member (in the 30 something group) that has been coming to our meetings.
Annually we hold our spring luncheon at the country club and the card party for our bridge players. Both are fun events, but definitely of more interest to our "seasoned" sisters. I'd like to try to plan something like an all-greek picnic or tailgate that might cater more to our younger members... and the activity would be something they could bring their families to, too.
