You did not know that fraternities ask about ritual, fraternity "secrets," and accuse people of being perps?
Even GC threads about NPHC fraternities over the years have referenced that.
To answer this man's question: Put your grown adult pants on and contact your fraternity brothers and your GLO. This situation depends on a number of factors and varies across GLOs/councils/conferences. You have the resources so use them.

Not when they just see them walking down the street, no, which considering he's out of school right now is what it sounds like he was worried about. Although that could be fun. "Hey you! In the ASA letters! Recite the Grace Before Meat NOW or I am going to cut you."

If you see a new face on campus and you walk up to him, it's not unusual to ask for identifying information. Most of the time, it's not that hard and doesn't take long to figure out if someone is trying to perp.
I wonder if the OP has some sort of membership ID from HQ that he could present, should he need to contact a nearby chapter/local alum.

He's not on campus though, that's my point. He apparently is worried about getting accused of perpery while at the supermarket.

The culture of NPHC sororities and fraternities (for example) is such that you can be asked for identifying information or anything else regardless of where you are. There are ways of essentially testing a soror or frat whether you see them at the grocery store or see them on campus. That is something to think about if you want to say that you are a member of a GLO that has certain identifying markers that members can discreetly ask about if they see you--regardless of where they see you.
The OP will figure it out just as hundreds or thousands of members have figured it out before him. I hope his silence means he is figuring it out.

The culture of NIC fraternities/NPC sororities is not.

Well, TECHNICALLY,...
If the OP was rightfully initiated and is in good standing with HQ, he should be able to contact them with questions that arise (including those about protocol).

Dumb question: do fraternities have conventions the way sororities do? If so, would he be able to learn some of this stuff by going to one?

Yes, but outside of my organization, I don't know what goes on at said conventions.

I apologize but I have to mess with you about this "dumb question" because it really made me chuckle. Of course fraternities have conventions the way sororities do. Non-GLO organizations also have conventions.

Oh, no, I know that! I probably asked the wrong dumb question. My question is more whether or not there is some organized way for the OP to learn what he feels he's missing? And I guess you guys wouldn't know unless you were members of his particular GLO.
By staying in this thread, I'm probably just embarrassing myself.
