Have you been nominated? I thought everyone at this point had these elephantine slating procedures that took a year in advance and rivaled the Democratic and/or Republican National conventions. I'm glad to see that's not the case as I think it's ridiculous.

If she's not a friend or a fan of yours, the time to ask her for advice is after you're elected, not before. Also, she may be responsible for choosing a nominating committee, and if she knows you're interested (I'm assuming your chapter is large enough that everyone doesn't know everyone well) and doesn't want you to be it, that may affect who she chooses for the nom comm as well.

I think there's a thread on here called "Chapter Presidents: What to Expect?" or something of the like.

1) She'll be here the next year.
2) I'm pretty sure I would not be the person that she votes for. One of the VPs now (who is also her good friend) will probably be running for president as well.

Is this a good thing to do? I don't want to seem like I'm trying to get an "in" with the president, etc.
I recommend logging off Greekchat, talking to people, and thinking this through. You have more skill and knowledge to figure this out than you give yourself credit for.

It is a good idea to ask her about the position. That way she knows you are really interested and looking at getting prepared to be really up for the job.

What are the specific job descriptions? What were some of her challenges? What were some of her big accomplishments? She could tell you if there was a convention or an officers meeting in the summer that you would have to attend or what your responsibilities to help with recruitment over the summer might be. If you were nervous that you might not get as much support if people knew that you were going abroad, you could just speak generally about the requirements of the job.

It might also be good to ask her about what would she have liked to do but didn't get the chance or where does she see the chapter heading in the next couple years. If she's going to be around, she could be a valuable resource to the new leadership.
