Would the local chapter be willing to let you be a "social member"? At my college, some undergrads who transfered to the campus and were initiated into organizations that didn't have a chapter there, would be invited to be social members. The social members paid a small fee and came to socials and non-ritual/meeting events. The social members made it clear to anyone outside of the chapter that they were not members of the chapter.
Just a thought.
