Ghost Tours
We're kicking around the idea of going on one of those ghost tours in October, maybe in Savannah. Has anyone been on one?

I've been on one in Boston, and it was actually pretty fun.
My friend used to work as one of the tour guides in Savannah. She loved it from her side of things. I can find out which one she worked for (I'm assuming there are a few), and see if there's any insider info to know, if you like.

I live in Sav'h. I've gone on two ghost tours - one that was great, and one that was blah. It seems to depend less on the company and more on the tour guide, IMO. (I'm not a big drinker, but if it's your thing, a lot of my friends highly recommend the haunted pub crawl.)

We don't crawl pubs but isn't that one of the tours that James Caskey gives? I'm reading his book now.

I did a ghost tour in Savannah 3 years ago and my boyfriend and I both loved it. Savannah is such a historic city and they point out some really cool, interesting things. I definitely recommend it!

I've done two in DC, both really bad. Mrs. Surratt haunted at least 8 places, while the Sullivan brothers haunted the rest of the place. No real drama about people who dueled or things like that.
I did know an intern who knew more "real ghosts" than any tour did - THAT was entertaining!

We did a Halloween ghost tour in Chicago a few years ago that was a lot of fun. You've really got to get the right guide. I would love to go on one in Savannah. Such a great city!

I've done great ones in Boston, Gettysburg, and Edinburgh. But I've never been to Savannah! Let us know what you think!

Really?!?!?!?! Could you elaborate a little bit about the intern, Honeychile?! I've never been on a ghost tour, but I've always been intrigued by the subject.

I've done the ghost tour and the vampire tour in New Orleans. The ghost tour was pretty blah but the vampire tour was AWESOME. I think that came down to the tour guide. The ghost tour gal just wasn't very engaging and I didn't buy into the stories. The vampire guy was telling a much less plausible story in a much more convincing way. Try Trip Advisor for reviews. They are my bible for anything related to travel and tourism.

I love going on ghost tours, and have done them in probably 15 different cities. I know you said no to a pub crawl, but I can honestly say the Savannah haunted pub crawl is in the top three that I've been on. It's one of only two where I think I was convinced that I saw a ghost (orb showed up in my picture).
But, unfortunately as everyone else has said, the key to a good ghost tour is a good guide- and those are hit and miss amongst every company in every city, from my experience. But, I do think ghost tours are a great way to get some entertaining history no matter what city you're in!

I've done ones in Boston and Key West. The Boston one was ok, but would have been a lot better if I wasn't already familiar with the city. The Key West one was interesting in that I wasn't familiar with the area and I got to see some neat parts of the town.

He was someone we knew, who thought he was going to run for office at some point. But, Blair House has a couple ghosts, and the Octagon House (in Georgetown) supposedly has several ghosts. Supposedly, Queen Elizabeth of all people saw "Abraham Lincoln" on her first stay at the White House, and tries to stay at the British Embassy when she's here now.

I did one at Colonial Williamsburgh with my family when I was in 6th grade. It was a lot of fun with just the right amount of creepiness. My mom is obsessed with paranormal stuff & it was interesting to see a completely different side of one of my favorite vacation spots. I would definitely go on another one.
