It is an intriguing thing. I guess you are saying in the human psyche, it is in our nature to feed trolls It's like a parasite/host relationship.

The parasite (troll) feeds off the host just enough to keep them alive, while the host may enjoy a certain benefit of feeding the troll that allows them to alleviate some negativity within their system.
