ugamama and 33girl -- those are very good points and could very well play into the decision. I guess there isn't an ideal scenario for everyone. When it comes to recruitment, you just hold on and, hopefully, ride to the end.

But on the other hand, who would want to sit around for a day or two after not receiving a bid? While I hate that my daughter is exhausted, last year I was glad that there was something to take her mind off the process if she had not gotten in.

It is probably to keep Moms from taking over the campus HaHa! It is a phenomena in Texas that the moms camp out near campus during rush in case their daughters don't get a bid and then to celebrate with them if they do.

Are you saying that Moms don't go up for Bid Day at southern (and more specifically Texas) schools? That has not been my experience AT ALL. Moms, sisters, brothers, dads, aunts....they all always seem to be there. The more the merrier!!!

We've discussed families coming to Bid Day here a lot lately! I think it gets bigger every year at Auburn but this is a big deal with family events at the sorority houses at several universities, SEC schools in particular.

To my knowledge it has not changed at UGA. At least not in my daughter's sorority. However, it is a practice at Texas Schools and Ole Miss and Auburn based on what my friends did last year with their daughters.

Definitely Auburn, Bama, Jax State--we've seen videos and pictures online here--and someone else please find the thread where we discussed families coming to Bid Day this summer! I have no clue where it is!

My personal experience is UT Austin (again, assuming LL's name and experience, hers should be similar). I pledged in the 90's and my sister in the 80's. In MY experience, it was very much the norm for families to attend bid day and I understand it still is. Legacy or not - and to be there to wipe tears off of those who don't fair well. I have also witnessed this at other TX and SEC schools where friends, daughters, etc... pledged.

Didn't mean to set anyone off here. I was simply going off personal experience and questioning LL's seemingly similar experience. That's all.

I really don't want to argue with you. But these are the examples that I could verify through Facebook off the top of my head.
PiPhi, Kappa, Chi O, TriDelt - all at UT, Kappa, PiPhi at A&M, PiPhi, TriDelt, ChiO at Ole Miss. I KNOW that I have pictures of Moms and Daughters at these schools on BID Day. I also KNOW that I was asked by various friends if I was going to Georgia to be with my daughter. One friend offered a beachhouse for me to stay in the week of Rush so I could be nearer to my daughter (just in case). These same women were going to be with their daughters at their campuses and were "concerned" and wanted me to be there. I am not repeating a myth. I didn't know it existed until I was asked/told about it last year. I will NOT post the facebook pictures because I don't feel it is right to do that. But I assure you I am not making this up.

I definitely will (same goes for her friend, if/when I find out where she got a bid)! Milledge will certainly be rocking tonight. It's custom that a bunch of the guys in the fraternities get lawn chairs and watch from right across the street (my guess is both of my cousins will be doing this tonight-they've done it every year they've been at UGA). The entire street is really loud, they have cops out near the houses and I believe traffic on the street gets blocked off.

Oh, and for what it's worth, my aunt and uncle, who are both alums of UGA, will be there at some point tonight (they live VERY close to the UGA campus) to celebrate with my cousin.
