Good story! Proof that you can find your place even if you don't bond with your chapter during recruitment. Girls fall through the cracks into hidden gem chapters all the time. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I was so blessed to have my mom's supportive ear and her unbiased, logical voice. She never pushed me towards any decision other than to at least stick it out through Preference. And while it's an obvious statement, hearing her say "Well, two of these sororities really liked you where the other ones unfortunately didn't as much, you best think about if you want to take your chances or take a guarantee that obviously 90 other girls have enjoyed for four years". Things you can read online, know with common sense, but sometimes your family just puts it in perspective!

I just want anyone going through recruitment that starts to falter to realize a lot of people have been there. Sometimes, those same girls that are recruiting you to their chapter at one point weren't sure about it themselves, but they stuck around so it must have something to offer

Eightisgreat..you are 100% accuate on all counts. I know that my daughter was "on the ledge" almost every day. It is a rollercoaster week and emotions run high. Sometimes they feel like they are the only ones not having a perfect recruitment. I had to remind her to keep her heart and mind open and to try not to listen to the negative talk from the other girls. Since I was not there, and not hearing all of the talk, I could be the voice of reason. OP..I wish every PNM going through recruitment could read your story..it is very valuable and you make some excellent points! Good Job!

ETA..it has been said here many times that if the girls that drop out would just give the chapters that they thought were below them a chance...they would all be in them together and could make a difference!

This reminds me of my nieces recruitment story. I think I have shared on here before. She went through at a very large competitive PAC 10 school. She was the total package- grades, looks (she is beautiful), activities and leadership, however, she is a little shy or reserved. She had the perfect recruitment until Preference where she was released from every chapter she deemed "good". She called me in tears telling me about the 2 chapters she had left. I told her she could do 2 things. Drop out and forget about being Greek or stick it out and continue on. She stuck it out and pledged a group that was in a rebuilding stage. Her New Member class was the one that started the turn around of this group. Her equally beautiful and not shy sister joined 2 years later. It is now a very active and competitive group on campus. It just takes one good or bad recruitment to change a Chapter.
