I do feel bad for all involved, including MaggieXi above, but in contrast to your post, there was a report on the radio this morning that the bartender that was serving him drinks said that yes, he checked on them to make sure they were okay to drive home, but also stated he had 3 beers and 3 shots over the course of about 4-5 hours.

Local Philadelphia news reports state that the bartender said that they were not drinking heavily. TMZ, reported that a witness said he had 3 beers and 3 shots over the course of about 4-5 hours. Of course, TMZ is also the same website that is currently reporting on Mel Gibson's GF -- The Nipple Tape Bondage Pics....

This is why there is an investigation to determine the cause(s) of death. People can neither go based on the bartender's account nor the TMZ witness account.

Which is why I didn't list a site. I said I heard it on the radio- but my condolences to both of their families and friends, in all seriousness, including MaggieXi.

Will Ryan Dunn's death suck the fun out of 'Jackass'?

http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=654323

I think "Jackass" has run its course.

ETA: The other person in the car was production assistant Zachary Hartwell. Rest in peace.

It's being reported now that the autopsy showed his BAC was .196 (over twice the legal limit) and accident reconstruction experts have estimated his speed at 130 MPH. Jackass indeed.

And it's not just coming from places like TMZ...

Wow. It's just so unnecessary.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the bartender's word because of the liabilities he may face as the one who served Dunn. He may be trying to do some CYA'ing.

Yeah waiting on the investigation.

ETA: After reading what the investigation has preliminarily found, I agree with you even more and see why the bartender is protecting his ass.

While I'm sure Bam Margera and the Jackass crew are devastated, it's probably in their best interest to stay away from the media. It's a hard thing to do in this day and age but it's really the smartest thing to do.

My best friend from college died in a fairly high-profile manner...everyone around me made sure that I didn't see any of the newspaper articles and TV news headlines. It would have just made things worse. This was before FB got big and before Twitter even existed...privacy for all people is really the best thing.

I had always thought that toxicology reports take weeks to come back. Is a BAC test not as complicated and can therefore be determined in a short period of time?

I purposely stayed away from this because it was getting sensitive in light of what Roger Ebert tweeted, but if this proves true (BAC almost .2, and he was driving 135 mph) better him than anyone else.

Feel horrible for the passenger. I needed to edit. I meant him hitting an innocent.

Simply, yes. In a basic test, they're just looking for alcohol levels in the blood. Forensic toxicology reports cover blood, urine, and tissues and will involve looking for more than just alcohol.

Just think about those numbers: .196 BAC. 135 MPH. Terrible.
