Oh, I won't yell. I'll just be very, very disappointed in you and may have to tell you that the angels weep for you.

Now, I have seen them and I did enjoy them, but god almighty all the hype leading up to the movies and the crap I got from friends because I hadn't "seen" them yet. I was like "really, I don't want to". I didn't see the trilogy until after ROTK was released, so I wasn't one of those people who anxiously and impatiently waited for 2 years.
Oh, you mean the movies. I thought you meant the books. That's different. Granted, I was counting minutes before each of the three movies came out, and they may be the only movies I've ever made plans to go to on opening day, but that's because I love the books so much. And as much as I love the books, I'd be the first to admit that they're a genre of literature people either tend to really like or really not like. My wife (who still hasn't read the books and hasn't seen all the movies) would be more like you.

Totally agree. Add Phantom of the Opera to that list.

Thank you. My husband is a huge fan and drives me nuts begging to see it every time we go to NYC. He can go, but there is no way in hell I'll sit through that dreck! Ugh.

Completely agree - for me, Phantom and RENTare two of the most overrated creations across basically every genre of art ... I think, for both, their popularity and renown are based more on cult of personality, or what the audience wants that particular piece of Broadway to represent, rather than the actual story/songs themselves.

Neither hold up well at all to repeated viewing, and both really venture to treacle far too easily, even if for completely different reasons (while Phantom has become a TVTropes-style joke, RENT looks almost quaint in hindsight - particularly reactions to it).
