Uh, it's likely more than "classified." Folks with a "classified" clearance will probably not see this stuff.

Why? They live in a world of fame and no consequences.

Unfortunately, the reality is much more gruesome and scary than Hollywood will make you think it is.

There isn't a Jack Ryan or John McClain in real life. You are talking real people with real families who when anonymity is compromised must change their real life in order to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Do you know how many of these type missions are ultimately declassified? Virtually all of them. Most all the highly classified actions during WWII and subsequent wars have had their "top secret" missions and raids declassified. There are books galore about them with many written by the participants.

There is really no reason for this to remain classified other than to protect CIA assets and haven't the Pakistani's shown that they are willing to "out" our station chiefs.

Virtually nothing stays "classified" forever. Navy Seals are not anonymous. The teams they are on may not be published but one can request a role from the Naval department. Delta may be anonymous but I really don't know about them.

Erm, if you can't see why "time" is the mitigating factor here, I'm not sure what to tell you. It may become declassified, but (similar to WWII) it might be 50 years. That 50 years is important.

The second part is non sequitur - the first part is a PRETTY BIG REASON. I mean holy crap.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, this is awesome:

Erm, much was written very soon after each of our wars (including the "Cold War"). It didn't take nearly 50 years. Reference the raid on the Japanese POW camp in the Philippines. The Nuremburg trials included much that was previously classified. There have been numerous declassifications under the FOIA and it isn't taking all that long. But no big deal. Only time will tell who is right about this. We will see.
