School HELP!
Okay, so Ive been very unhappy with my school since Sophomore year. (Phi Sig and TBS being my reasons to stay) I would LOVE to transfer, but Im going into my fourth year (yikes!) and I will be there for two more (making it five- the usual number it takes a Clarion student to grad)
But I am REALLY REALLY REALLY unhappy with my school- and I see all these people talk about how fun college is, and how much they love their school... Ive tried. It dosent work.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any graduates totally not like their schools? Do you think it makes a difference?
Isnt college supposed to be the best time of your life?
*sigh*
Here were my transfer options (requirements: Must have Phi Sig and TBS - oh yea, and education as a major)
Syracuse (Go Pi and Eta Alpha!)
Bloomsburg
West Chester
Kutztown
...

Ali,
I can definitely relate! Some times I am unhappy with the school I go to, St. Mary's University. It is a small school, which is what I wanted. Now, I want to go to a huge, out of state school. I am so indecisive it's crazy.
Like you, I wanted to transfer to a school that had an A-Phi chapter. I figured, if I am going to go to an out of state school where I am going to know nobody, going to a school with 50-150 sisters would be the greatest!
But.....I decided (for now) not to transfer anywhere and to stay where I am at. Most likely, I won't be graduating on time (in Sp '04). As of now, I decided on going to grad school out of state. There will always be an Alum chapter around somewhere. I decided that transferring now would be a bigger problem and put me even further behind.
Only you know what is best for you. Best of luck with your decision. Feel free to PM me if you need to chat about it.

Alison, I'm sorry you are having a crappy time, sweetie! You would have needed a court order and large machinery to make me leave, but I know it's a lot different now. Hey there's a solution...get in the time machine and go back to Clarion 10 years ago...that you would like.
Is it the educational programs, the school rules or extracurricular stresses that's the worst part? I hope when the new prez comes on, he/she really tries to do something about the suitcase state of things. There've always been people who go home every weekend but I think it's so much more prevalent now.
If you go to another state school, there shouldn't be as much of a problem with transferring credits. I don't know what it would be like at Syracuse, not to mention the major $$$ factor there.
email/call or pm me if you want - you know the drill

I hated the school I went to...it was a commuter university. I really didn't have a choice because my parents didn't have the money and I paid for college on my own. Joining my sorority was the best thing that I ever did. Not only did it help me cope with going to a crappy school but I have made millions of friends. I thought about transferring but I just absolutely couldn't leave my sisters
Eventually I graduated and I still hate the school I went to. I will never make any kind of contribution to it whatsoever.

The Problem with schools are they are3 to big or to small, just not right!
I went to 2 middle schools where we were not just numbers and not so small that everyone new your business!
I look at the Big 12 Schools and with out the Profs seating chart he had no idea who in the hell you are or were!
If is aint right and your grades are good, look onward to somewhere you feel comfortable! But the Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence until you find it being astro turf!

Alison, yes there are alumnae who absolutely detest the college or university they graduated from. Just like AOX81, I attended our hometown university (U of Louisville) and hated it. It was a primarily commuter school back then, with over 20,000 students and something like 92% of them were commuters. My parents didn't want me going away to school, so I would have had to pay everything to go to any of the schools I truly wanted to attend (Western Kentucky, Xavier, Dayton, Cincinnati or my beloved University of Kentucky.) I think not liking your school makes a huge difference academically, mentally, socially, the whole package. I know it did for me and honestly, although my life has been darned good overall, sometimes I still wonder if I would have been happier and done better academically if I had gone elsewhere. Then again, I wouldn't have met Mr. AOIIalum if I hadn't been at U of L
If it weren't for AOII, I probably would have dropped out well before I eventually did. I finally returned to U of L a few years ago and got my degree. I'm proud of my degree and that I was a Dean's Scholar the entire time I was finishing, even if it took 17 years for me to earn the thing. I could care less about the school though, and that's a sad thing.
