That's probably from when he was 13. NO ONE looks good when they're 13.
Here is young (20ish) George:
Being 40ish myself, I have noticed that the "getting better with age" thing REALLY kicks in or they REALLY go downhill - no in between. How much is genetic and how much is maintenance though, hard to say.

Au contraire! Ironically enough, my current Facebook profile picture is one of me at 13.  At the time, I had thought I was ugly, I was fat, my nose was too big, etc. But that photo is "ZOMGWOW" gorgeous. It made me realize I was beautiful the way I was and needed to stop being so hard on myself.
