Gamma Phi Beta Sorority is saddened by the loss of a sister. Melanie “Nicole” Mixon, a 2010 initiate of Epsilon Lambda Chapter and junior at the University of Alabama, was a victim of the deadly storms that devastated Alabama last night. Condolence messages to Epsilon Lambda Chapter may be sent c/o:
Lauren Whitten, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, P.O. Box 866269, Tuscaloosa, AL 35486.

This is so sad. One of our sisters has been in touch with an Epsilon Lambda sister, and we were told that Nicole was found in the rubble by her best friend, 24 hours after the storm began. I know she is in our thoughts and prayers, as are her family and friends.

As a memorial, we are all wearing black and pink ribbons with our badges on Monday. I encourage all Gamma Phis to do the same.

Too tired to sort through the comments, but as soon as it was posted his mother commented something to the effect of..."Yes you're very brave, now get home so I can hug you. THEN SMACK YOU". Made me smile a little. At least at the end you can tell he realized this was a dumb idea.

That being said, no one should ever, EVER do that. Especially after James Spann tells you, "that is HUGE". BTW, I saved this comment, because it's correct, and shows just how crazy this kid was:
"Knowing the University Mall area like I do, he was approixmately less than 1000 feet away from the eventual path at his first vantage point. Thankfully he moved to the other end of the parking lot near the soldiers memorial and turned back around toward the tornado. At that point he was probably only 1500 feet from the path of the tornado. At the end when he drove toward the tornado, he was only about 300 feet from the path."
