Yes! This! My mom was really into this when I was in grade school and would have multiple batches going. Since you never fully use up the starter, there could be specks of flour and drops of milk that are YEARS old. Ohmamajammacreepywilliesahhh.

Yes, and also, since she was a co-worker, I didn't really know her that well, and I had no idea where the "starter" originated, so I also thought it was doubly gross / dirty / unsanitary, etc. So, into the trash it went.....
