I noticed the traffic slow down over a year ago in the NPHC forums. When I first joined GC all 9 forums had active threads throughout the day. Then it trickled down to just the DST forum, and now that is even kinda dead.

I think there are two reasons:

The first: there are just so many other social web sites that people can use to communicate.

Second: I feel that some regular posters have made it near impossible to come here and enjoy a casual chat in any forum. I mean, there are regular posters here who will take what someone says and split hairs on just one word, phrase, or meaning. In the early years of GC you did not have to worry about beaing soooooo politically correct. Now you do.

My recollection of the early years of GC differs completely. LOL.

But, I think this is the equivalent of a Greekchat chapter meeting. I encourage people to be very honest and detailed so that we can nip all of these regular posters in the bud. Let them know who they are so that they can be punished to the fullest extent of the Greekchat.

I still check just about everyday or two because of the spam but I agree with you guys in that folks move on with life (and the other posted reasons). I've been on since 01' and have seen the waves of change. I think GC is still relevant though because we've posted/created some great threads that are not only informational but funny as he**. I've seen threads quoted on other websites, blogs etc. Aside from the spammers, GC still has a lot of new members signing up everyday. We even have national officers from orgs checking it out.
Personally, I love GC because of the huge community it is. It's not regulated to JUST NPHC or locals, etc. I also like that GC is moderated. We've all seen some other fraternity/sorority chat sites come and go due to SPAM and unruly posts.

I also think the simple design has helped GC stick around. GC is easy to navigate, the colors are easy on the eyes and the ads are at a minimum. I think John has done very well with this site that wasn't even generating any $$ during the early years.

I agree. And this too:

I think this is a big one, at least it is for me. More & more people dont want to post/"get involved" if you will for that reason. While admittedly the occasional troll/trainwreck/spoof threads are fun to read, GC is not half as fun anymore as it was when I joined in 2003.

I also think others that were regulars in the past are too busy with life to come here & post regularly anymore. It is also possible they have become regular lurkers rather than posters because of the above reasons. Just my two cents.
