1a. The day we crossed. I had tears in my eyes the ENTIRE time. Very rarely have WORDS touched me so deeply, but everything about that day was so intense.

1b. Being thoroughly surprised when I turned around and my mama was there to pin me. And surprised again when I saw that my godmother and my mom's best friend were there as well.

1c. Immediately after crossing - the way my LS's and I were so HESITANT to throw up pinkies, ivies or call each other "soror." At the time the whole thing seemed so unreal.

1d. I love looking back at the pictures from that day. I have never seen people looking such a HOT MESS look so happy.

1e. Using the 30 minutes we had between the time we crossed and the time we had probate practice to run to my dorm, change clothes, and hop on GC to make my announcement.

2. The night we probated. It was such an exhilirating experience, and I was so relieved. That week that I knew I was an AKA but nobody else did was KILLING ME!! And after the probate when I received a HUGE gift basket from my spec - I've never had someone outside of a family member or long-term friend go all out for me the way that she did.

3. My first chapter meeting. It was my first glimpse into the business side of Alpha Kappa Alpha, and I was (and still am) thrilled at the prospect of playing an active role in the way the chapter is run.

4. I was on my way home from school for Christmas break a few months after we crossed and I stopped at this random Target to use the restroom. I had on my line jacket, and this Alpha that worked there ran all the way up 2 aisles to greet me with a "Hey, soror!"

5. I love seeing sorors/frat on the road. I still get a thrill when somebody honks and throws up the pinky or the ice.

6. Going home a few weeks ago and having one of my closest friends from middle school greet me as "soror" in Hobby Lobby - she had just crossed in February.

Sorry this is so long, but they just kept coming. Maybe I'll be back with more.

My proudest moments:

1. The moment I crossed. I was so happy--I had finally achieved something that I wanted for so long. I still get chills when I look at a picture taken of my line sister and I the moment after we crossed.

2. Being nominated for a leadership position within the chapter. It meant a lot to me that someone felt that I was worthy to undertake a leadership position so soon after I crossed.

3. Meeting Sorors and Frat while out and about. I love it when a Soror, or Frat flashes the sign while I'm out.

4. Moments when students/co workers ask me about Zeta.

5. Meeting older Sorors and listening to them talk about Zeta.

That's all for now....This is a wonderful thread!

I have to add my most recent proud moment. One of the sorors in my chapter hosted a Woman's Day service at her church recently. She invited the Chaplain of the Southwest Region, Soror Orenthia Mason, to speak. Soror Mason is one of the best orators that I have ever encountered. I put her right up there with Dr. Akbar and Dr. Dyson. I just sat in awe as I watched and listened. I was truly proud that one of my sorors could move so many people. She made me realize the profound affect that my sorors make on the community and the world.

If any of you (sorors, prospectives, other greeks, everyone) get a chance to hear her speak, take it! It is well worth it.

At rush when my profytes did the sweetheart song I want to just pee in my pants (sorry) I was so excited.
At our probate, when we came out everyone was there. IT was so packed where we had it. I couldn't believe all those people were there then they started to scream and it was lovely.

Smile Proudest Delta Moments

OOOOOOO-OOP Sorors...I haven't posted since last August but a new summer internship obviously means more free time at the computer

As I read some of the other posts and got teary-eyed...I thought of some of my own proudest moments.

-Obviously the day I crossed...

-March 9, 2002...International Day of Service as Deltas around the globe held programs for one common cause: to fight the spread of AIDS...if you think about it that was something truly powerful

-The exceptional programs and community service that Delta Delta has done over the past year including a City-Wide Teen Summit... as we shared our experiences with other young people and let them express all of the things they wanted to say...i remained misty eyed the whole time

-My advisor who is a Delta for helping me on this long journey and supporting me in my every endeavor and always being there when I call day or night

-Being called Soror for the first time

-Going out of town and meeting other sorors

I could go on and on forever so I'll stop now

Talking My WOW moments

One WOW moment:

As an Interest I signed a guestbook and received a response from a Zeta Soror. She offered me guidance and support on my search for a Sorority. I was deeply touched because this woman did not know me from a hole in the wall and offered to help me in any way that she could. She then gave me very good advice, which I continue to pass on to other ladies which is: Yes, you need to do your research in to ALL sororities and learn their history. But the history will not tell you about the current members of the organization. Attend their events, participate in anyway possible, get to know the women of the chapter you are interested in. This will help you in your decision. And last but not least, follow your heart for your heart will NEVER mislead you.

After receiving that advice and other things, I made my choice and on May 20, 2000 I along with two other Blu-tiful Women became Sorors of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.!!!!! I cried (and I kid you not) for no less than two hours straight. I could not believe it. I had finally accomplished one of my goals!

I contacted that Soror who so graciously helped me and informed her that because of her support, guidance and advice and I am proud to call her My Soror and I am ever so Grateful to her.

One year later at my first Regional Conference we finally met and we cried and hugged for a good while. Later, I found out that her husband is my Church Sister's Cousin, AND she was made in a chapter were my Cousin was made a Zeta, to whom I recently got back in touch with after 8 years.

Other WOW moments:

When I was made a Zeta. Words just cannot explain the joy I felt and the Love I have for my Sorors and our organization.

Aids Walk New York May 21, 2000 (the day after we crossed):

I had just finised my volunteer work and met a Kappa who came and greeted me with a hug and a friendly smile and knew my chapter. Oh what a feeling! He is still my favorite Kappa (especially since he was the first one that I met)

When I went to Philly Greek 2000:

I had never been to a Greek picnic and to be around SO many people of the Blue & White Family as well as my Sandz from other organizations and the members of the organizations giving me mad love and respect.

November 2000:

I was hospitalized and my Sorors was there for me with prayers and good wishes.

2001:

My first State meeting and Regional Conference.

2002:

When I was awarded the Undergraduate of The Year by sponsoring Graduate Chapter, when I was given a State position and I know I will have more WOW moments when I attend my First Convention in New Orleans next month.

Whew.... I'm done.
