Sex & The City Theme
Hey everyone! I'm on NPC Exec this year, and we are trying to come up with a theme for recruitment. I was thinking a Sex & The City theme, anyone got any ideas we could do for that? Thanks!!

Random, but I'm really surprised that "________ & the City" themes aren't played out yet.
One of our parties had a Sigma and the City theme my senior year, 4 years ago.

I don't like it. Just curious, how many HS Seniors watch the show or saw the movie? I have a DD in HS and that is not even on her radar. I always tell my girls that they need to think about the culture of what HS/17 & 18 year olds are listening to, watching and doing and try to connect with that. Better yet, if you can wait a little bit pick a theme closer to summer because that is what the girls will connect with- Prom, graduation and their summer of the senior year unless you go with something generic.
KSU, yes the theme has been done and in my opinion over.

I don't like it either. I don't think that a lot of HS seniors are going to be excited about a SATC-themed rush, especially after how OLD they looked in the movie. It's over, as is anything relating to Tiffany and Co.
I think a more general theme would be better. How many sororities are there on your campus? You could make a play on the number, like "Lucky Seven" if there are 7, and do a casino theme. Just think about your school and the sorority scene and you'll find something that works!
Good luck!

Agree. Agree. Agree.
Any time you pick anything "pop-culture" (although. as pointed out above, SATC has passed that status), you run the risk of people either having no interest in that particular theme, or worse, negative reactions to the theme. You're best to stick to generic themes, like Munchkin suggested.
Other generic themes:
No Matter the Letters, We're Greek Together
Fiesta/Luau/Carnival (careful with others' cultures, however)
Not What You've Become - What You've Always Been
Also, I think generic themes allow each sorority's personality to come out more.

Well if everyone wants to throw out some suggestions that'd be nice too. Know that its NOT for my own sorority, but the theme of recruitment in general. Like last year it was Peace, so we used peace signs alot and had tshirts that said "Peace Love & Pan"
If you give me suggestions, give me a way that we can use it signs promoting recruitment or on tshirts

We understand what you are looking for.
That does not obligate us, however, to help you. You have been given some suggestions. It is up to you how you use them. We're not here to do it for you.

My school never really did Panhellenic "themes," and I don't really get the point. But then again, Panhellenic at W&L never has to recruit PNMs, so it's a little different.
That said, my freshman year the Panhel shirts were "GO GREEK" in HUGE letters on the front, and on the back were all the chapters' letters inside the school symbol. Each chapter had a shirt in their own colors (Pi Phi were light blue, Kappa was blue, Theta dark yellow, KD green, Chi O red). Panhel exec and rho gams had a different color.
One day a week, all members were asked to wear the shirts. It was REALLY effective. As a freshman, I didn't really know the names of all the houses but I could remember the colors.
Obviously, this wouldn't work on a campus with more than 6 or 7 houses (not nearly enough different colors), but it was a really great show of how many DIFFERENT women were Greek.

This was years ago, but we did a Dr. Seuss theme. The panhellenic shirts were "Oh the places you'll go" and each pi chi group was called a different Dr. Seuss charecter.
The year I went through it was something about the colors of the rainbow and all together it makes something beautiful. Really, after the first day it did not matter at all that I was in the blue group.
They also did a football theme, which failed miserably. Of course, the head of Greek Life at the time was a guy.
My former campus has since gotten away from recruitment themes.

The Dr. Seuss theme sounds really cute-- and what a great way to showcase all the accomplishments of Greek women, from being a new member to now. Seriously, such a good theme.
As for us, we did "One Letter, One Heart" for last year's recruitment (which obviously would only work for Tri Delta and Tri Sigma), but it really only had to do with what our name tags looked like, our video theme (which was cut out this year, thank God), and our skit. I don't think that there was an overall theme last year besides "Go Greek" (which isn't really a theme at all), but all individual themes had to be approved by CPC before anything was done.
There were a lot of "peace and love" type themes though. Ex. I think KD did "Peace, Love, Kappa Delta" and Pi Phi did "One Love", a kind of Bob Marley theme. Best of luck finding one though and good luck with recruitment!

I really liked a shirt I saw once that had ~10 different shoe silhouettes on it, each with a different sorority's letters, and the theme was "Find Your Perfect Fit." I thought that was tasteful and charming, and supported the Panhellenic idea that you need to try them all on.

Thanks everyone so much for all of the suggestions! I'll definitely taking these ideas back to our director and see what she thinks.
But as for you Alpha Frog, nobody told you that you HAD to participate in giving me suggestions or even reply at all so I see no point in you being rude. I'm simply asking for suggestions, not telling you that you HAVE to figure this out for me. So I'd appreciate it if you just took yourself out of this conversation. Nobody asked for negative input.

My old chapter's pan hellenic usually just had a "theme" for one day. Basically on Open House the theme was "go greek" and all the sororities wear the same shirt with some type of saying on it. I believe this years is "No Actors, just Stars" After that other than broad themes: Philantrophy, skit, pref there is no other unifying factor.
