They can add to your personal experience. You have the personal wine preferences on display of Munchkin03 and me. Does it sound like we picked our wines based on RHWO Atlanta? PeppyGPhiB even brought up the point values of the wines produced in her state. These are examples of average people who aren't completely ignorant about wine. This proves that your statement was GENERAL! Maybe you just haven't had the right customers who know what they like, study wine, and order bottles based on that. That is why I said you have limited experience. In MY EXPERIENCE, there are a large number of people who subscribe to Wine Spectator, study the prices of wines, know what's a good deal when they go to a restaurant, order the appropriate bottle for what they plan to eat, ask the sommelier if they need some help and experiment with new wineries to expand their horizons. They are not the majority of people out there so I won't generalize and claim they are.

PS. Once you get out of college, you realize that your experience is ALWAYS limited. My experience is limited. That's why I continue to travel, eat at fine restaurants, drink wine when I can, study medicine, etc. If we knew everything, we could just hang it up and die.

Our wine tours started out as an alumnae chapter event! Then a small group of us started going on our own. The older women in my chapter are really knowledgeable when it comes to wines so they were a lot of fun!

That would be really cool. We had a wine tasting with my alum group before I moved from Baltimore. It was a lot of fun...great turnout as you can imagine!

My parents subscribe to Wine Spectator, We've been to Napa, they have a cellar in their house. I'm not saying they buy according to name. I'm not the one with comprehension problems dear. You interpreted my statement as general, I interpreted your statement as misinformed on my circumstance.

Have I confused you with someone else, or are you a PNM? If you are, you might re-consider your tone, because you are not enamouring yourself to anyone, and people will take this seriously enough to hunt down your school and no-rec you. Fair warning.

Picking a fight was not my intention. But I'm a PNM so I'm clearly in the wrong for standing up for what I said. If I knew I wasn't allowed to make generalizations then I would have rethought my post especially if I knew it would turn into this. I just mentioned from previous experiences, limited or not, general or specific,what I've come across. My apoligies AOII angel. Nothing in this post addresses the same thing I was addressing. No one said that you shouldn't defend your point, however for someone in your position, you should do so WITHOUT alluding to someone having a reading comprehension issue and pet names...it's condescending, and you obviously meant it that way. And before we get into a pot/kettle discussion, yes, I snark people on a pretty regular basis, but I also got my bid while you were still in Jr. High, and am not worried in the least bit about impressing collegians and alumnae, as you should be, bless your heart (that was for you, KR).

No one said that standing up for what you said is "wrong," it was all in your tone. It's all about being gracious at this juncture. Those of us who have been where you are now have earned our snark.

Some of the comments made to me I felt were condescending. I did not mention the comprehension issue until she told me I had the issue. Regardless, I wouldnt want to jepordize (Sp?) my chances because of a silly thread about wine. Again, my intention was not for it to blow up into this. I apoligized, back tracked, and whatever else because after re-reading from the beginning I realize what I had said. My point is I apoligized after comprehending what I had said and I extend that apoligy to you. I'm not offended in any way and I hope that I didn't offend anyone in the process.

Your apology is accepted from my side. Realize that tone is hard to control in posts. Condescesion can be felt on both sides...that's why I suggested that you might have a limited exposure (as we all do.) To give you an example, my husband and I were at a restaurant in Dallas that is fairly upscale. My husband was excited to find a bottle of Sea Smoke Pinot on the menu for a very reasonable price point so he decided to buy it for us (a friend was with us for dinner.) The waiter commented when he ordered the bottle that he only wanted it because it was mentioned in the movie "Sideways." My husband was VERY offended by the comment. It was condescending to him that he would only choose his wine based on what a Hollywood actor drank on a movie rather than what he had researched on his own. To do so in front of a customer's guests was unthinkable, as well. Needless to say, that careless comment cost the waiter a generous tip cut back to an average tip. It still makes him mad to this day even though I tell him that the average person who asks the waiter for that bottle probably did hear about it from "Sideways."

Now I understand where you are coming from. If I would have known that I would have explained a little more on my perspective. Sea Smoke is a fabulous wine and Ive never even heard of the movie Sideways. Im sure I can tell you what restaurant that is because there are very limited restaurants in Dallas who carry it. I compliment the guests choice regardless of if its a 40 dollar bottle of BR Cohn, or a 150 dollar bottle. Everyone's taste buds are different and I'm not one to judge what you like / dislike.

Munchkin: I completely understand and I'm not offended by anyones snark towards me. And dont take this the wrong way, sure its a right of passage but sometimes is it necessary? Just from lurking on other threads and posts I see some thing that are unjustified, and some things deserve far more snarkiness than provided.

Of course snark isn't necessary, but it's just a reality. These boards are a microcosm of life. What you may not realize when someone doesn't get "appropriately snarked", is that other usernames know that they don't want to go tit-for-tat with certain people. And, let's face it....sometimes you know in going tit-for-tat with one person, others are going to jump in. There are cliques on GC, and rather than taking on the whole clique, people let certain people slide with more than others. Of course it's not fair, but such is life.
