W&L Rush?

Anyone know anything about Washington and Lee sororities or rush? I'm highly considering going there next year. I know greek life is huge and there are 6 sororities, deferred rush, etc. I am also considering UGA and was wondering the big differences between W&L rush and a big SEC school rush (level of competitiveness, etc) Thanks so much

From what I know, via reading these boards, UGA rush is going to be a LOT more competitive than W & L rush.

Good luck with whichever school you decide to attend. But remember school is about getting your education, not being in a sorority.

Pick your school first and let the recruitment cards fall where they may. If you choose a school for the Greek System or the "recruitment experience" and that experience does not go as planned, you will start your entire college life on a sour note. If you love the school, successful recruitment or not, you will find happiness despite the outcome of recruitment.

I'm hoping/guessing that most of the people who say things like that are trying to figure out:

1) If they would even like a Greek system that is that competive/of that size
2) If they'll have to jump in and take the plunge first semester, even if they might not be ready emotionally or financially
3) Whether to even bother with the school (applying does cost money)
4) Both schools are even, this just might be the deciding factor.

And there ARE schools that no, if you have an unsuccessful rush, you probably won't be happy.

W&L alum here.

Whether or not rush is "competitive" at W&L depends on your definition of competitive. If you're looking at the number of girls who get bids, it's somewhat competitive. If you're looking at the number of girls who were completely cut from all houses, it's not really competitive at all (usually there's less than 7 [out of about 300-350 rushing] who get totally dropped). If you're looking at girls who all want to get into the same houses, it's unbelievably competitive. A LOT of girls drop out because they were left with "bad" houses, and then later claim they were "cut" from recruitment (I will NEVER understand this).

The thing is, though, that all the houses are really great. The addition of ADPi has really helped this, and kind of shaken up the status quo. IF you go into recruitment with an open mind, or at least willing to consider ALL your options [going in with a truly open mind is impossible with a deferred rush and a small, gossipy campus], and without a bad reputation from Fall Term [yes, we will all know THAT GIRL and no, none of us want her in the house], chances are good for you to get a bid, and if you let yourself, you will have a great four years, no matter which house you end up in.

Also, I had two friends who were independents, and they enjoyed W&L.

Thanks everyone! Just to clarify, I am definitely NOT choosing my school based on their rush experience or greek system. I have a pretty good idea of where I want to be based on things like academics, athletics and the entire experience in general, I was just looking for a comparison.

That said, awesome point angels&angles about keeping a good reputation during the fall. I can totally see already from talking to a few people that there are a couple houses considered "worse" than others.
