It does happen all the time, and I know I was wrong and I felt incredibly guilty for doing that. It's just that I didn't like the restaurant job, and I was offered the job at the zoo so, I had to quit the pretzel place, too. I mean, I even called them and I told them I found something else. Plus, I really never even started working at Auntie Anne's. I mean, I worked one day for like 4 hours or something and that was it. The zoo called me and wanted me to start right away so, I had to leave.

I've left one job with no notice - and it was a restaurant. I felt bad, but I took a day job (I was working 3rds) and literally couldn't handle both. They also accused me of stealing, which wasn't logically possible. There were 4 of us: 3 girls and a guy. The guy wasn't on the register the first night the drawer came up short, and I wasn't on the register the second night when the register came up short the exact same amount. That logically excludes the guy and I, unless there were two separate thieves who stole the same amount. Either way, I didn't do it, and was not amused by the accusation, nor the fact that they tried to require me to pay a portion of the shortage.

Serving jobs are a dime a dozen. I actually just no call, no showed last week at my job. If you had to deal with egomanical (spell check), conceited, arrogant, 28 year old general managers who talk down to you unless you let them in your pants (because youre a female, hello, thats OBVIOUSLY what you're only good for) who are degrading and belittling then I felt I owed them nothing and certainly didnt feel bad.

I worked at Quizno's one summer during high school and for the most part it was pretty a good experience. The only horror story I can recall is that one night at closing I was mopping the bathrooms and emptying the trash cans when I enter the woman's bathroom and find that someone had left a bloody tampon and appeared to have shaved their area down stairs and left a lot of hair in the trash can. I was just like "WTF" and bagged the trash while looking away lol. Reminds me of the days where I would work all day Sunday with just two other teenagers and we would make cheesy bread and eat pepperonis out of the containers in the refrigerator lol.

I remember being REALLY annoyed with the "Pizza Hut is my life" management staff.

The ONLY time I ever no call/no showed there was when I was SCHEDULED TO WORK ON MY PROM NIGHT.

There were 3 other HS kids working there at the time. In FEBRUARY (4 months in advance), he asked all of us when our respective proms and other important dates were (ex: graduation) so he could schedule around them (and put people on who weren't in HS).

I reminded him on like 3 separate occasions that my prom was on this date.

A week before prom, I'm checking the schedule to see when I work so I could schedule my hair/nail appt around it.

I see that I am ON THE SCHEDULE to CLOSE THE STORE (4-midnight). ON PROM NIGHT.

I called my manager and his response was pretty much "Not my issue." WTF? You asked me for the date 2 weeks ago to double check and make sure you DIDN'T put me on.

He basically told me I'd better come to work or I was fired.

Guess who was not at work on prom night? Me.

I didn't get fired though. I came in to work that Monday and he didn't even say anything. LOL.

But you left out the part when you dropped off the apron and the hat at the pretzel place. That was low down....

I thought you called and asked them did they want the hat and apron back. Didn't you drop them off and then bounce?

ETA: If you're going to post about it, at least tell the truth.

My first "real job" was as a greeter (hostess) at a restaurant that was just opening. I'm pretty sure I was hired because the middle aged guys doing the interviewing thought I was cute and had a nice smile. I noticed all of the greeters were cute high school girls. These guys - the manager and owner - would always chat me up and ask me if I still had my boyfriend whenever they were in the restaurant. Ick. When they found out I was going to college in California, they tried to recruit me to work at one of their restaurants down there. No thanks.

At the same job, I sometimes helped the servers out by taking out a few lunch orders during a rush. One time I took an order out to a table of businessmen in suits (30-somethings), and when I asked them if they'd care for anything else, one of them says, "How 'bout a hot tub and a rub down?" OMG. His coworkers were totally silent and giving him looks like, "WTH you just hit on a high school girl?!" I just turned and walked away.

In college when I worked at Starbucks one summer, during the opening shift on a Sunday, a guy walked in and butted ahead of people in line to tell me that he wanted "a current scone!"
"OK," I said, "Let me just help these people out first," and pointed to the two or three people in line.
"ALL I WANT IS A CURRENT SCONE!" yelled the man.
"OK, and all they want is a cup of coffee," I said.
Then the man starts to really lose it. He's putting his hands on his hips, running them through his hair, pacing, etc. He's nuts.
"CAN I JUST PAY FOR MY CURRENT SCONE? I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WAIT IN LINE FOR A CURRENT SCONE."
Finally the manager comes out. If you've worked at Starbucks you know that the managers tell you that you don't have to put up with rude or aggressive customers, so the manager sees and hears this guy, and immediately tells the man to get out of the store. But not before the guy can ask one more time for his current scone.

I told my mom all about it that night and she and I now compare unruly people in public to the "Current Scone Man."

Current = Currant? That sounds tasty. I've had a guy ask for a glass of Pine-nut Grig-E-O (Pinot Grigio) once.
