Depending on how much you plan to spend, maybe get a season of one of the hundreds of mystery tv shows? (Or just a mystery movie..?) Also if you do the magnifying glass, I think it would be a cute idea to paint & decorate it! We just finished with big/little week here & the bigs painted/decorated literally eveything possible!
