I can't believe Chandra Wilson got passed up for an Emmy AGAIN. This is a serious crime against humanity.

You know what I mean.

Anyone notice this is the second time Alex has broken up with a girl after she's been committed?

Chandra Wilson wasn't even nominated this time. I was shocked when I saw that. I think that maybe the whole controversy with Katherine Heigl turning down the nomination ticked off the Emmy people.

That would be consistent with Alex's backstory of caring for his mentally ill mother. It's his deal breaker for sure. He can't deal with mental illness.

TPA: I thought it felt like a good follow up to the season finale from May. There was a lot to address and wrap up after that.
I thought the scene with Derek calming the kid down was good. The kid woke up in pain and in a panic about it. The mind has considerable control over how you react to pain and I think Derek brought him out of his hysteria about the pain. I didn't take it as though the kid was no longer in pain, he just knew he wasn't dying. Besides, they'd pumped him full of pain meds already, they probably hadn't taken effect yet. I'd equate to labor pains, which is one of the worst pains (not the worst, but probably second worst) I've ever felt. The mind is definitely able to overcome the pain using the techniques they teach in child birth classes. Panic definitely makes it worse.
