I seem to remember something about her being mentally unstable. Mix that with an inability to provide for her children (and herself, for that matter), and I think they're on the fast-track to disaster.
Yes, I agree with you in principle. The reality is that it is very difficult to remove children from a home without some major physical abuse or extreme neglect.
