Just another quick lesson with marching bands.

If you look at the years that marching bands were ALL MEN. Its from the late 1800s to the late 1930's....Its a little conflict called WW2, that sent all the men away to war, thus leaving all the women behind. The women had to pick up the pieces and do all the mens work since majority of them were drafted. This bringing women into marching bands for the first time.

So for the comments about "they had to had at least one women in the band", the answer is no...it may sound weird, but back then they really had no women in the band.

Bands back then were cadet bands, military units. and back then "women in military = no no"

I think, and this is only a guess mind you, that there was someone claiming that women didn't really belong in the org because otherwise there would have been at least one woman among the founders. So this person decided to point out, why that's illogical.

You're right. I guess we were all supposed to remember this discussion that started 10 years ago.

There may be some truth to the claim that prior to "a little conflict called WW2." (And I may have to add that to the thread on words and phrases that annoy you.) I don't know.

But it seems to me that the simpler answer is that co-ed fraternities didn't really come into existence until the 60s and 70s, mostly (though not completely) as the result of Title IX. I doubt the idea of a co-ed fraternity would have occurred to KKPsi's founders in 1919, whether there were women in the band or not.

Just a heads up -- when you're bumping a thread that hasn't had a post in months, and that stretches back 10 years, you might want to quote what you're responding to. Otherwise someone has to read the whole thread to figure out what you're talking about.
