I hate when people make assumptions about black NPC members from both sides. That is all.

-Black NPC member.

I couldn't decide what I wanted to reply to this thread with, but the above sums up my thoughts quite well. I'm just thankful this subject matter is something I've never had to question in regards to myself, my chapter, or the pnms we get to meet at recruitment.

So, ditto.

I know! I kept reading this thread and getting more frustrated.

What assumptions have been made? Just curious.

It was a comment made earlier in the thread that supported one of my assumptions.

But I can be a jerk sometimes so it should have no bearing on the topic at hand.

Where are the assumptions? I'm a black NPC member and, while I used to get all heated up about these posts a decade ago, it's nothing I haven't seen in my own life.

I've learned that, while I came from an amazing chapter, I know that there are chapters where my sisters would NOT welcome me with open arms. That doesn't upset me.

Well, we join the organization through a chapter and not the other way around. Chapters are a reflection of the people in them. Perhaps she doesn't feel that those chapters (moreso, the women in them) are a reflection of the organization.

I think it would upset me, too, but in all reality, there are chapters of my sorority that wouldn't have chosen me for a plethora of reasons. I am under no illusions that I would have been able to pledge AOII at every school in the US or Canada. Each chapter is different. I am ashamed, however, of sisters who refuse to accept sisters for such discriminatory reasons.

im African american and plan on rushing at my transfer school . Honestly for someone to judge another by the color of there skin in a sorority surprises me a little just based on the fact that If a African American young women chooses to Rush and not show interest in NPC and feel comfortable with Panhellenic Coun. why should you feel a certain way about it, obviously she has done her research or talked to a friend about it. "It's only awkward if you make it awkward" If your house goes into the process with an open mind just as those black or white do then you'll find that you guys are more alike than you think.
