The issue is perps and also stolen identity. Someone can be totally legit when you check a directory or ask around but that doesn't mean it's the person who is really behind the username.
True, i'm not suggesting typing out my ritual to someone via PM just because I can look them up in the directory but there are varying levels of trust.
